Balance

Balance is not letting anyone love you less than you love yourself. – Felipe, Eat Pray Love

I think I need a little balance in my life. As the semester nears a close, the more I feel like balance is the furthest thing from my mind. Peace is so hard to find, even in the silence of the waves washing along the sandy shore of the beach when no one is nearby and the closest thing to company are the brown little beach birds that scamper across the rocks in pairs.

Life is a balancing act. Like night and day, partitioned by dawn and dusk.
Like the double suns, it feels almost like a dream, a fictional reality. If only it would end...

Caribbean Chick with Sticks

The Caribbean is all well and good, sunshine and warmth, interesting flora and fauna. But what is a knitter to do without a LYS nearby?!?

I have to say that despite the lack of fiber-y goodness in close proximity, I had the forethought to bring a project with me. Happily and sadly, it is now finished. And part of the knitting process was even done at Tantra, a club in Maho, while we were waiting for the PhiChi/AMSA Date Auction to begin post-block 2 on Valentine's Day. =D

Granted, this is a terrible picture of my Vixen Camisole and it took an absurd two months due to studying and such. It was little short, so I added a few rows of single crochet at the bottom to a) decrease the rolling despite blocking and b) add a little length so it was less indecent. I probably should have knit the dropped stitch section longer, but I was beginning to get impatient. =PHopefully, I get to take more pictures of knitting in interesting places.

Sundays and Sunsets

After one and a half semesters, I finally made it down to Cupecoy Beach, and it was devoid of people. Just as we arrived, a couple made their way up the stone steps up the cliff, leaving the beach to us. The sky was just beginning to change colors at that point, the waters were relatively calm, especially after the random spurts of rain we had for the first part of the week.

Watching the sun seemingly fall beneath the edge of the ocean is almost surreal. Warm still emanates from the sun as it sets, as opposed to in SF where watching the sky change colors is far more comfortable from a heated house. So perhaps this sunset wasn't taken on a balmy sunday evening but it was beautiful nonetheless. As sailboats passed across the horizon, we stood on an empty beach, the sand and surf to ourselves. It was definitely one of the most peaceful moments of the week by far, a nice little mid-week break. Nothing beats med school on a tropical island.
